APASA Spotlight: Jennifer Lee
Why did you apply to APASA?
I applied to APASA because I'm really passionate about creating a safe space for APA individuals to discuss, share, and learn about their identities - and APASA is the perfect way to do that! Being able to serve the APA community on campus is very rewarding, and getting to be a part of this amazing tight-knit family while doing it makes it that much more awesome of an experience!
Favorite APASA memory so far:
Omg so many :o Night Market + Cultural Art Expo <3 but fireplace after Night Market, getting my big, brainstorming community involvement event ideas with other interns two weeks ago hehe.
A significant cultural milestone for you:
88rising's growing presence in the music industry because I think music is a big part of life that really connects people and having this APA representation in popular mainstream music is a huge deal (not only for aspiring APA artists but also the community as a whole, to see people that look like us be successful in an industry that lacks APA individuals).
What does being APA mean to you?
Being APA to me means being conscious of my identity. It means being cognizant about the intricacies of my culture and how I can add a different narrative to conversations I'm having and connect with others with a similar narrative. It means being an active part of the APA community, and promoting solidarity and support for those I can help.
If you could plan any event at USC, what would it be?
A food festival! Kind of like Night Market but including the other culture branches of USG programming like BSA and LSA. Performances (poetry, dance, short plays, etc), good diverse music, blankets and lights. Ideally it would be an event to foster conversations about culture, race, ethnicity, and backgrounds - so maybe it would also have a theme or a central discussion question?? Boxes all around for people to anonymously write and drop answers to the central question???
What is your long-term goal for APASA?
To uphold an inclusive APA community on campus and keep an active APA presence available at USC :')
Thank you Jennifer!
